Description
WHAT IS AFM?
The result of 35 years of Research and Development, AFM® (activated filter media) is a sand replacement that can be installed in any type of sand filter without making modifications.
Made from green and brown glass, AFM® has undergone a unique activation process that makes it self-sterilising and provides enhanced mechanical and electrostatic filtration performance.
Powerful characteristics
Thanks to its large hydrophobic area and mesoporous structure, AFM®ng can filter much finer particles (1 micron) and 50% more organic substances than sand.
- SELF-STERILIZING SURFACE
- Resistant to bacterial growth.
- EXPANDED CONTACT SURFACE
- Mesoporous structure, for superior filtration performance.
- SURFACE WITH ACTIVATED CHARGE
- For the adsorption of the finest particles and organic matter
Unique benefits
Why is activation so important?
Because it significantly reduces chlorine consumption and ensures crystal clear water and the best air quality.
- Healthier water: prevents the transmission of pathogens (e.g. Crystosporidium)
- The most transparent water: Offers a stable filtration rate of 1 micron.
- Healthier air: Prevents the formation of toxic by-products and chlorine smell.
- Lower operating costs: Saves on flushing water and chemicals.
- The most sustainable filtration: More durable than all other filter media.
How to calculate
To calculate the required AFM® charge for a filter, you should take into account that it requires 15% less than the indicated amount of silica sand.
1 AFM® bag 21 kg = 1 bag of sand 25 kg (same volume)
AFM® grading 1: 0.4 – 0.8 mm 21 kg bag
AFM® grade 2: 0.7 – 2.0 mm 21 kg bag
AFM® grade 3: 2.0 – 4.0 mm 21 kg bag
Filter capacity table, always place the filter cartridge up to 2/3 of the total height of the filter.
